Typhoon Dujuan death toll rises to 14 as floods persist in Japan

Typhoon Dujuan has claimed 14 lives in Japan, with two further deaths confirmed on Monday (September 28).
The latest fatalities involved a man in his 60s in Ichihara city, Chiba, and a woman in her 20s in Miura city, Kanagawa.
Figures from the Chiba prefectural government and other sources showed about 1,600 flooded homes and more than 200 damaged homes as of 4pm on Monday.
Around 450 homes still have no running water, and roughly 3,900 are without electricity.
The Japan Self-Defense Forces began work on Monday to remove fallen trees in Ichihara.
Power cuts have affected around 2,000 homes in the city.
Evacuation centres in Chiba were accommodating about 160 people.
Both Kanagawa and Chiba prefectures near Tokyo were hit by heavy rain linked to Dujuan, the year’s 25th typhoon, a week before September 28.
In Chiba, east of the capital, damage has been widespread.
A levee breach has left areas around Inbanuma, a major lake, still flooded.
A man in his 70s remains missing in Nagara, a town in Chiba, where local police and the fire department are still searching for him.
He is believed to have been struck by a landslide while driving a vehicle.
