DDPM orders immediate evacuations in 7 Ratchaburi districts on Sept 29
Mae Klong Dam releases rose to 2,000 cubic metres per second on September 29 and could reach 3,000, threatening low-lying Ratchaburi areas
- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) ordered immediate evacuations on September 29 for residents in seven districts of Ratchaburi.
- The order was issued because the Mae Klong Dam increased its water discharge, causing the Mae Klong River to rise and threaten to overflow its banks.
- The warning applies to residents in riverside and low-lying areas of Ban Pong, Photharam, Mueang Ratchaburi, Bang Phae, Damnoen Saduak, Wat Phleng, and Pak Tho districts.
- Vulnerable residents such as children and the elderly were prioritized for evacuation, and mobile phone alerts were sent to those in the affected areas.
Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued an immediate evacuation warning on September 29, 2026, for residents in riverside and low-lying risk areas across seven districts of Ratchaburi as rising Mae Klong River levels threatened to overflow its banks.
The DDPM said Mae Klong Dam increased its discharge to 2,000 cubic metres per second at 1pm, with releases potentially rising further to as much as 3,000 cubic metres per second.
The increased discharge was driving rapid rises in the Mae Klong River and connected canals, heightening flood risks downstream of the dam, particularly in low-lying communities.
Seven Ratchaburi districts covered by evacuation warning
The DDPM’s warning applies to residents along the Mae Klong River, connected canals and low-lying areas in the following districts:
- Ban Pong
- Photharam
- Mueang Ratchaburi
- Bang Phae
- Damnoen Saduak
- Wat Phleng
- Pak Tho
DDPM prioritises vulnerable residents and sends phone alerts
The DDPM urged residents in the affected risk areas to leave their homes immediately, giving priority to children, patients and older people. Residents were also advised to move pets and vehicles to safety, raise belongings above flood levels and cut the electricity supply as a safety precaution.
The DDPM said it had worked with mobile network operators Advanced Info Service (AIS), True and National Telecom (NT) to send cell broadcast alerts to mobile phones in the affected areas.
