Bank of Thailand sets 18 bank holidays, eight long weekends in 2027

The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has announced 18 traditional holidays for financial institutions in 2027, including eight periods that create long weekends of at least three days.

The longest nationwide break will run for four days from Saturday (May 1) to Tuesday (May 4), combining the weekend, the substitute holiday for National Labour Day and Coronation Day.

Banks will also close for three consecutive days during Songkran from April 13–15, although the holidays fall between Tuesday and Thursday rather than adjoining a weekend.

August 12 remains an annual national holiday marking the birth anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and National Mother’s Day.

January

• Friday, January 1: New Year’s Day.

February

• Monday, February 22: Substitute holiday for Makha Bucha Day, which falls on Sunday (February 21).

April

• Tuesday, April 6: Chakri Memorial Day, commemorating King Buddha Yodfa Chulalok the Great and the Chakri dynasty.
• Tuesday, April 13: Songkran Day.
• Wednesday, April 14: Songkran holiday.
• Thursday, April 15: Songkran holiday.

May

• Monday, May 3: Substitute holiday for National Labour Day, which falls on Saturday (May 1).
• Tuesday, May 4: Coronation Day.
• Thursday, May 20: Visakha Bucha Day.

June

• Thursday, June 3: Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.

July

• Monday, July 19: Substitute holiday for Asalha Bucha Day, which falls on Sunday (July 18).
• Wednesday, July 28: His Majesty the King’s Birthday.

August

• Thursday, August 12: Birth anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and National Mother’s Day.

October

• Wednesday, October 13: Navamindra Maharaj Day.
• Monday, October 25: Substitute holiday for Chulalongkorn Day, which falls on Saturday (October 23).

December

• Monday, December 6: Substitute holiday for the December 5 observances, comprising the birth anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, Thailand’s National Day and National Father’s Day.
• Friday, December 10: Constitution Day.
• Friday, December 31: New Year’s Eve.

Eight long weekends

The calendar creates the following extended breaks for banks operating on a standard Monday-to-Friday schedule:

1. January 1–3: Three days for New Year.
2. February 20–22: Three days for Makha Bucha.
3. May 1–4: Four days covering National Labour Day and Coronation Day.
4. July 17–19: Three days for Asalha Bucha.
5. October 23–25: Three days for Chulalongkorn Day.
6. December 4–6: Three days for the December 5 national observances.
7. December 10–12: Three days for Constitution Day.
8. December 31–January 2, 2028: Three days covering New Year’s Eve and the weekend.

Additional holidays for Islamic Bank

The Islamic Bank of Thailand will also close for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha on dates announced by the Sheikhul Islam Office.

These additional holidays will apply when the observances do not coincide with one of the nationwide bank holidays or a regular weekend.

Additional holidays in five southern provinces

Branches of financial institutions and specialised financial institutions in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Satun and Songkhla will receive three additional holidays:

• Eid al-Fitr.
• Eid al-Adha.
• Chinese New Year.

The additional closures will apply only when the dates do not coincide with a nationwide bank holiday or regular weekend.

Two former bank holidays remain cancelled

The BOT confirmed that two previous accounting-related holidays will not return:

1. The July 1 half-year closing holiday for financial institutions and specialised financial institutions, abolished from 2019.
2. The April 1 additional annual-account closing holiday for the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, abolished from 2022.

The holidays were discontinued because improved accounting systems allow financial institutions to close their books without disrupting services across their operating channels.

The remaining bank holidays in 2026, from August to December, include an additional special holiday applying only to financial institutions in a designated area.

• Wednesday, August 12: The birth anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and National Mother’s Day.

Bank holidays in October 2026

• Tuesday, October 13: Navamindra Maharaj Day.
• Friday, October 16: A special holiday for financial institutions in Bangkok during the World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings.
• Friday, October 23: Chulalongkorn Day.

Bank holidays in December 2026

• Monday, December 7: A substitute holiday for the birth anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great, National Day and National Father’s Day, which fall on Saturday (December 5).
• Thursday, December 10: Constitution Day.
• Thursday, December 31: New Year’s Eve.
