Overnight plan raised releases from 1,750 to 1,850 cubic metres per second
The RID’s overnight plan called for releases through Chao Phraya Dam to increase from 1,750 cubic metres per second at midnight on September 26, rising by approximately 20 cubic metres per second each hour.
Under that schedule, releases were due to reach 1,850 cubic metres per second at about 5am. The announcement provided for the department to maintain that rate afterwards.
Upstream water level reached 16.87 metres above mean sea level
The RID’s water situation report at 8pm on September 25 recorded continuing inflows towards Chao Phraya Dam from Nakhon Sawan, the Sakae Krang River and surrounding areas.
The report recorded:
- C.2 station, Mueang Nakhon Sawan district: Flow of 1,816 cubic metres per second.
- Ct.19 station on the Sakae Krang River, Mueang Uthai Thani district: Flow of 120 cubic metres per second.
- Additional local inflows: Water continued to enter the area upstream of Chao Phraya Dam from surrounding waterways and run-off, bringing the upstream level to 16.87 metres above mean sea level.
The release adjustment was intended to create capacity for incoming river flows and water from accumulated heavy rainfall in upper Thailand. The supplied report described the objectives as maintaining the dam’s stability and preventing water from overflowing into upstream farmland and communities.
