The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning residents across Northern and Southern Thailand to prepare for flash floods, river overflows, and mudslides despite a temporary reduction in rainfall across upper regions.
In a 24-hour forecast released at 17:00 on 29 September 2026, forecasters confirmed that whilst the weakening south-westerly monsoon has eased precipitation across upper Thailand, isolated heavy downpours continue to hit western districts of the North—particularly Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai—alongside scattered thundershowers across the South.
Furthermore, weather authorities cautioned the public to brace for a fresh wave of widespread rainfall projected to hit the country between 5 and 10 October 2026.
Severe Weather Risks and Maritime Safety
The TMD urged residents in vulnerable areas—especially those living on foothill slopes, near waterways, and in low-lying plains—to remain vigilant against hazards stemming from persistent and accumulated rainfall.
Risks include sudden flash flooding, sustained waterlogging, riverbank overflows, forest run-offs, and landslides.
At sea, conditions in the upper Andaman Sea have moderated, with wave heights ranging from 1 to 2 metres.
However, wave heights during thundershowers are expected to exceed 2 metres across both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. All seafarers are advised to navigate with heightened caution and strictly avoid sailing into storm cells.
