The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in parts of Bangkok on Friday afternoon (October 2), with strong winds and lightning possible in areas experiencing storms.
At 1pm, the department reported on its official Facebook page that a new rain cluster had formed over the capital. It noted that the rainfall was expected to be short-lived but urged people in areas experiencing thunderstorms to remain cautious.
Weather radar showed the newly formed rain cluster moving across western Bangkok, with Chom Thong and Bang Khae among the areas expected to be affected.
The rain was also moving towards areas bordering Samut Sakhon, prompting motorists on major roads and transport routes to exercise extra caution.
People in Chom Thong, Bang Khae and areas bordering Samut Sakhon were advised to watch out for strong winds and lightning.
Outdoor workers, construction workers and motorcyclists were urged to seek safe shelter during thunderstorms and avoid taking cover beneath large trees or billboards that could be brought down by strong winds.
JS100 Radio also reported that rain was spreading across Bangkok and surrounding areas during the early afternoon:
People travelling during the afternoon and evening were advised to take extra care on wet roads.
Motorists were advised to use headlights where visibility was poor, leave more space between vehicles and avoid routes where water was accumulating.
Residents and travellers were also advised to continue monitoring weather and rainfall updates as the situation developed.
