Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul orders agencies to fast-track delegate visas and security as Bangkok prepares to host global finance leaders next week

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all government agencies to accelerate final preparations for the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF), scheduled to take place in Bangkok from 12 to 18 October 2026.

Chairing the national preparatory committee at Government House on Monday (October 5), Anutin reviewed operational readiness across security, protocol, health services, and logistics just one week before the global financial summit opens at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC).

The Prime Minister emphasised that hosting the gathering must extend beyond administrative success, serving as a platform to boost international investor confidence, expand trade, and showcase Thailand's infrastructure, hospitality, and technological capabilities.

Fast-Tracking Visas and High-Level Programming

To ensure seamless entry for thousands of international delegates and financial leaders, Anutin ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and immigration authorities to fast-track overseas visa processing and immediately resolve any logistical bottlenecks ahead of the opening sessions.

The official schedule for the summit week includes:

12 October: Opening of the Thailand Pavilion at the QSNCC.

14 October: Official dinner reception hosted by the Prime Minister at Government House.

15 October: Special showcase of Thai cultural identity at the QSNCC.

16 October: Plenary Session of the Governors of the World Bank Group and IMF.

Alongside the core proceedings, Thailand will host high-level side events under the theme "Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience".

Discussions will focus on artificial intelligence and digital transformation, the role of middle powers in a multipolar global economy, climate change adaptation finance, and economic strategies for ageing societies.

Key policy forums will also explore economic resilience amid global geopolitical fragmentation and sustainable financing for green transitions.

Venue Readiness and Economic Outlook

Venue operations at the QSNCC have been fully aligned with World Bank and IMF standards. Dedicated transport corridors connecting Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports with primary conference venues, official reception sites, and delegate hotels have been established to streamline transit across the capital.

"This meeting is a milestone opportunity for Thailand to open its doors to global leaders," Anutin said following the meeting. "We must ensure that every visiting delegate sees Thailand’s complete readiness across economics, infrastructure, hospitality, safety, and culture, ensuring the summit delivers lasting economic value to the Thai public."
