The TMD expects another high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China to extend over the Northeast and South China Sea, bringing increased rainfall to central, eastern and southern Thailand during October 9–13. The system is forecast to push the monsoon trough southwards across the East and upper South, while a moderate southwest monsoon covers the Andaman Sea, Thailand and Gulf of Thailand.
TMD warns of flash floods and waves above 2 metres
The TMD warned that heavy and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and rapid run-off, particularly on foothill slopes near waterways and in low-lying areas, where standing floodwater could also develop. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres during thundershowers. People in affected areas should avoid open spaces, large trees and unstable billboards during unsettled weather, the TMD advised. Residents should also plan daily activities and travel carefully during the warning period.
The TMD urged mariners in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand to check their routes, navigate cautiously and avoid areas experiencing thundershowers.
