TMD issues advisory No 4 for heavy rain in Thailand Oct 9–13

Bangkok faces heavy rain risk on October 10–11, while southern Thailand remains under warning throughout October 9–13, with flood and landslide risks.

  • The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds in parts of Thailand from October 9–13.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned at 5pm Thai time on October 8, 2026, of isolated heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Thailand during October 9–13. Thundershowers, gusty winds and hail are also forecast.

The TMD’s Advisory No. 4 (250/2026) was signed by Nattawut Dandee, deputy director-general serving as acting director-general.

Bangkok included in October 10–11 heavy rain warning

Bangkok and surrounding areas are included in the TMD warning for October 10–11, while the South remains covered throughout October 9–13. The affected regions vary by day:

  • October 9: The eastern part of the Northeast, the East and the South.
  • October 10: The lower North, lower Northeast, Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, the East and the South.
  • October 11: The lower North, Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, the East and the South.
  • October 12: The South.
  • October 13: The South.

TMD warns of flash floods and landslides

Heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides, particularly along waterways near foothills and in low-lying areas, the TMD warned.

People in affected areas should avoid open spaces, sheltering beneath large trees and standing near unstable billboards during thundershowers and gusty winds, the TMD advised.

The TMD attributed the unsettled weather to a high-pressure system extending from China over upper Thailand and a monsoon trough lying across the upper South. The southwest monsoon is also prevailing over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Storm waves could exceed 2 metres in Andaman Sea and Gulf

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres in areas affected by thundershowers, according to the TMD. All vessels are advised to proceed cautiously and avoid thundershower areas.

Southern Thailand faces heavy rain in October 8–9 forecast

The TMD forecasts isolated heavy rain in southern Thailand in its 24-hour outlook from 6pm on October 8 to 6pm on October 9, Thailand time. The regional forecast is as follows:

  • North: Thundershowers are forecast over 20% of the region, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai and Tak. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 21–26°C and maximums at 31–35°C, with easterly winds at 10–20km/h.
  • Northeast: Rain is forecast over 10% of the region, mainly in Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 21–24°C and maximums at 32–34°C, with northeasterly winds at 10–25km/h.
  • Central region: Thundershowers are forecast over 30% of the region, mainly in Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 23–26°C and maximums at 33–35°C, with easterly winds at 10–20km/h.
  • East: Thundershowers are forecast over 20% of the region, mainly in Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 24–26°C and maximums at 33–35°C, with northeasterly winds at 10–30km/h. Waves are expected to remain below 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.
  • South, east coast: Thundershowers are forecast over 60% of the region, with isolated heavy rain in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Yala and Narathiwat. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 22–25°C and maximums at 33–34°C, with easterly winds at 10–30km/h. Waves are expected to remain below 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.
  • South, west coast: Thundershowers are forecast over 60% of the region, with isolated heavy rain in Phuket, Trang and Satun. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 24–26°C and maximums at 32–34°C, with northwesterly winds at 15–30km/h. Waves are forecast at around 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in thundershowers.
  • Bangkok and surrounding areas: Thundershowers are forecast over 30% of the area. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 25–27°C and maximums at 34–35°C, with northeasterly winds at 10–20km/h.
