Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led Cabinet members in a wreath-laying ceremony in Bangkok on Tuesday (October 13) to commemorate His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, Rama IX.
Government Spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises said the ceremony was held at 8.30am at the King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Memorial Park on Phitsanulok Road in Bangkok’s Dusit district.
Anutin and Cabinet members first paid their respects before the statue of King Bhumibol. The prime minister then laid two wreaths on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
In his capacity as interior minister, Anutin subsequently led senior Interior Ministry officials in laying another wreath on behalf of the ministry before the ceremony concluded with a group photograph.
October 13 is observed each year as His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Memorial Day, marking the anniversary of the late King’s passing on October 13, 2016.
The day is known in Thai as Wan Nawaminthara Maharat. The government formally adopted the name in 2023 to commemorate King Rama IX and his contributions to Thailand.
During his 70-year reign, King Bhumibol initiated and supported development projects aimed at improving livelihoods, including work involving water management, agriculture, forests and soil conservation.
His Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, based on moderation, reasonableness and resilience, also became an important framework associated with his approach to sustainable development.
