TMD warns 6 Thai provinces of torrential rain on Oct 26–27

Thailand faces flash flood risks in the South, while storms and strong gusts are expected to affect the North and Northeast first on October 26–27.

  • The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for torrential rain from October 26-27, which could trigger flash floods in southern Thailand.
  • The forecast for "very heavy rain" specifically targets six southern provinces: Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Trang, and Satun.
  • This severe weather is attributed to a strengthening monsoon trough over southern Thailand, combined with a cold air mass from China affecting the upper regions.
  • Residents are warned of flash floods and rapid run-off, while boat operators are advised of waves potentially exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warned on October 26, 2026, that continued rain could cause flash floods in southern Thailand, with very heavy downpours forecast in parts of six provinces. Upper Thailand also faces thunderstorms, strong gusts, heavy rain and possible lightning.

The TMD’s 24-hour forecast covers the period from 6am on October 26 to 6am on October 27.

Southern Thailand faces flash flood risks from persistent rain

The TMD warned residents in southern Thailand to beware of thunderstorms, heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could trigger flash floods and rapid run-off. Foothill slopes near waterways and low-lying areas are particularly at risk.

Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand could exceed 2 metres in areas affected by thunderstorms, according to the TMD. Boat operators should navigate cautiously and avoid sailing through thunderstorms.

Cold air from China brings unsettled weather to upper Thailand

A high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China is expected to extend over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, according to the TMD. Easterly winds will carry moisture from the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand into upper Thailand and the upper South, while a monsoon trough across the central part of southern Thailand is strengthening.

The TMD expects thunderstorms, strong gusts, heavy rain and possible lightning to affect the Northeast and North first. The Central region, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and the East are expected to be affected later.

The TMD advised people in upper Thailand to beware of thunderstorms and strong gusts, avoid open areas and stay away from large trees and unstable billboards.
