Thundershowers are forecast across 70% of Bangkok and surrounding areas from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday. The South faces a flash flood risk from November 7–9.

Hail in upper Thailand and flash flood risk in the South

Unsettled weather is expected to continue in upper Thailand on November 6–7, with thundershowers, gusty winds, hail and isolated heavy rain.

The department urged people to take care in thundershowers and gusty winds, avoid open areas, keep clear of areas beneath large trees and stay away from unsecured billboards.

Rainfall is forecast to increase in the South from November 7–9, with heavy rain in many areas and isolated very heavy rain.

The department urged residents to watch for the effects of accumulated rain, which could trigger flash floods and rapid runoff from forested areas, particularly on slopes near waterways in the foothills and in low-lying areas.

Another high-pressure system, or cold air mass, from China is spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea.

This will strengthen easterly winds over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.

Waves will exceed 2 metres in areas with thundershowers in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

The department advised mariners in both waters to check their routes, navigate with caution and avoid areas with thundershowers.

The department urged people to plan daily activities and journeys carefully during the advisory period to stay safe and reduce potential impacts.

It also asked people to keep following its advisories.

Updates are available around the clock on the department’s website or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 or 1182.

The next advisory is due at 5am on November 7.
