Impatient Thais urges Israeli embassy to promote respect for Thai law
Impatient Thais submitted a letter urging Israeli tourists and residents to respect Thai law, customs and culture following local complaints.
- The civic group "Impatient Thais" has formally requested the Israeli embassy to encourage its tourists and residents to respect Thai laws, customs, and culture.
- The request stems from complaints of intimidation, harassment, and business disputes involving Israeli nationals in popular tourist areas like Phuket, Koh Samui, and Pai.
- The group specifically asked the embassy to cooperate with Thai authorities on legal cases, to openly condemn misconduct by its citizens, and to refrain from defending those who have broken the law.
Akkarawut Kraisrisombat, chairman of Impatient Thais and a representative of the group’s civic network, submitted a letter alongside people the group said had been affected at the offices of the Embassy of Israel in Thailand on Monday (August 24, 2026).
They sought cooperation in promoting understanding of and respect for Thai law, customs and culture among Israeli tourists and residents in the country.
Impatient Thais said it had received complaints from Thai people who said they had been affected in several areas and provinces, and that several cases had recently been reported in Thai media.
The group alleged that Israeli tourists and residents had intimidated and harassed local Thai residents, Thai tourists and Thai business operators in Phuket; Surat Thani, including Koh Samui and Koh Phangan; and Pai district in Mae Hong Son.
The group said the complaints also involved social, business and property disputes in those areas, causing concern among local people and drawing widespread criticism in Thai society.
It therefore made the following requests to the embassy:
- Raise awareness and understanding among Israeli tourists and residents about the need to comply with Thai law, social norms, traditions and culture, in order to maintain good relations with Thai people and local communities.
- Cooperate with Thai government agencies in establishing the facts when Israeli tourists or residents are accused of breaking Thai law. The letter further called on the embassy to discourage such conduct and openly condemn Israeli nationals found to have behaved inappropriately towards Thai society, insulted Thai people or failed to respect Thai law. It said the embassy should not defend Israeli tourists or residents found to have broken the law or infringed the rights of Thai citizens, as doing so could give Israelis the impression that the embassy supported further wrongdoing.
- Maintain constructive communication between the embassy and Thai people to resolve concerns peacefully before they escalate into issues affecting international relations. Impatient Thais expressed hope that the embassy would cooperate in preserving friendly relations between the Thai and Israeli peoples.
