Thailand eye perfect SEA V Cup sweep against Vietnam

Thailand will seek to complete a perfect six-match sweep of the women’s SEA V Cup 2026 when they face Vietnam at the 700th Anniversary Chiang Mai Sports Complex at 4.30pm on Sunday (August 9).

The hosts have won all five of their matches across the two legs and have already secured the second-leg title after opening their home campaign with straight-set victories over the Philippines and Indonesia. The final match will be broadcast live on ONE 31.

Thailand’s results, combined with the Philippines’ four-set victory over Vietnam on Saturday, leave the hosts assured of first place even if the Philippines draw level with them on points, as Thailand cannot be overtaken on the set-ratio tiebreak. Sunday’s match will therefore determine whether Thailand can finish the entire two-leg tournament with six wins from six.

Straight-set wins secure Chiang Mai title

Thailand began the second leg by defeating the Philippines 3-0 on Friday, taking the sets 25-19, 25-17 and 25-19.

They followed that result with another 3-0 victory over Indonesia on Saturday, winning 25-18, 25-17 and 25-12 to extend their tournament winning run to five matches.

Thailand have yet to drop a set in Chiang Mai, while Vietnam enter the final fixture after losing their opening two matches of the second leg.

Vietnam surrendered a two-set lead in a 3-2 defeat by Indonesia on Friday before losing 3-1 to the Philippines on Saturday.

Thailand swept opening leg in Hanoi

Thailand also completed an unbeaten three-match campaign in the opening leg, staged in Hanoi from July 31 to August 2.

They began with a 3-1 victory over Indonesia before overcoming the Philippines 3-2. Thailand then defeated hosts Vietnam 3-0 in the final match to secure the opening-leg title.

The Thai side won the deciding match against Vietnam 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14.

The SEA V Cup features Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Each leg is contested in a single round-robin format, giving every team three matches in Hanoi and another three in Chiang Mai.

Recent record favours Thailand

Thailand have won six of their seven most recent meetings with Vietnam. Their only defeat during that run came in the second leg of the 2025 SEA V League.
