Thailand complete SEA V Cup double ahead of Asian Championship
Thailand won both legs of the SEA V Cup 2026 after beating Vietnam in straight sets and will next defend their Asian title in Tianjin.
Thailand’s women’s national volleyball team completed a clean sweep of the BYD DMI 6th SEA V Cup 2026 by winning both legs of the regional competition, ahead of their next major assignment at the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship.
The second leg was held at Gymnasium 1 of the 700th Anniversary Chiang Mai Sports Complex in Chiang Mai.
Thailand entered their final match after recording straight-set victories over the Philippines and Indonesia, giving them six points. Their final opponents, Vietnam, had lost both of their previous matches and had one point.
A victory over Vietnam would therefore secure the second-leg championship for the hosts.
Head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai named a starting line-up led by captain Pornpun Guedpard, alongside Chatchu-on Moksri, Thatdao Nuekjang, Sasipapron Janthawisut, Pimpichaya Kokram and Kaewkalaya Kamulthala, with Kalyarat Khamwong playing as libero.
Vietnam were led by captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.
Thailand produced another commanding performance, using a varied attack to score consistently while maintaining a solid defensive display.
The hosts comfortably defeated Vietnam 3-0, winning 25-20, 25-10 and 25-15.
Thailand finished the second leg with three victories from three matches without dropping a set, collecting the maximum nine points and securing the title.
The Philippines finished second, Indonesia placed third and Vietnam ended the competition in fourth.
The result confirmed Thailand as champions of both legs of the BYD DMI 6th SEA V Cup 2026, reasserting their position at the top of Southeast Asian women’s volleyball.
Thailand turn attention to Asian Championship
Thailand’s next competition will be the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship, scheduled to take place in Tianjin, China, from August 21-30.
The defending champions have been drawn in Pool B alongside Kazakhstan, Indonesia and Australia.
According to the supplied competition details, the champions will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three teams will earn places at the 2027 World Championship.
