  • Thailand defeated South Korea 3-2 in their most recent encounter and have identified fast play and strong blocking as key to winning the rematch.

Thailand’s men’s national volleyball team will seek to secure an early place in the quarter-finals when they take on South Korea in their second Pool C match at the AVC Men's Volleyball Continental 2026 in Fukuoka, Japan.

The match is scheduled for Monday (September 7) at 3pm Thailand time. Fans can follow the action on MONOMAX, watch free on MONOMAX SPORTS TV or stream the match through VBTV.

Thailand, coached by Park Ki-Won, began their campaign with an emphatic straight-sets victory over Qatar, while South Korea opened with a 3-1 win over Taiwan.

With both sides having won their opening matches, victory on Monday would guarantee the winning team a place in the last eight.

Thailand will also take confidence from their most recent meeting with South Korea. The teams faced each other at the AVC Men's Cup 2026 in June, when Thailand prevailed 3-2 after winning 25-17, 24-26, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7.

Speaking ahead of the rematch, Thai volleyball player Toopadit Phraput highlighted the areas Thailand would need to sharpen against their opponents. "Against South Korea, we have to raise the tempo of our play and make our serves and blocks work as we did against Qatar," he said.

Another player Sgt Anuchit Pakdeekaew also identified blocking as a crucial part of Thailand's game plan against South Korea's fast attack. "We have to focus on blocking because South Korea play very quickly. There will be pressure in this match, but we will give everything," he added.

The AVC Men's Volleyball Continental 2026 runs from September 4-13 and features 12 national teams: Japan, Iran, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Thailand.

The tournament carries significant qualification stakes. The champions will earn a place in the men's volleyball competition at the 2028 Olympic Games, while the top three finishers will qualify for the 2027 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Cup.
