Thai national team sprinter Puripol Boonson, known as “Bew”, won the men’s 200m gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after crossing the finish line first in 19.88 seconds.
His time broke the Games record he had set in the semi-finals.
The men’s 200m final was a highlight of the athletics programme in Japan on Sunday (September 27, 2026).
Puripol lined up in lane eight after clocking 20.10 seconds in the semi-finals to break the previous Games record of 20.14 seconds, which had stood for 12 years.
He maintained his strong form in the final, accelerating to cross the line first in 19.88 seconds and take gold.
His time lowered his own Games record from the semi-finals by a further 0.22 seconds.
China’s Huang Youwen took silver in 20.45 seconds, while Japan’s Soshi Mizukubo claimed bronze in 20.56 seconds.

It was also Thailand’s first Asian Games men’s 200m gold in 52 years, following Anat Ratanapol’s victory in 1974.
Puripol completed the men’s 100m and 200m double with two gold medals.
