Thailand face Vietnam in key FIFA ASEAN Cup clash at 7.30pm

Thailand will face Vietnam in a key Group B match at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 at 7.30pm Thailand time on Tuesday (September 29) at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Indonesia.

Anthony Hudson’s Thailand opened their campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Pakistan, with Teerasak Poeiphimai scoring twice and Jude Soonsup-Bell also on target.

Vietnam, coached by Kim Sang-sik, began with a 1-0 win over the Philippines through Nguyen Dinh Bac’s first-half goal, extending their unbeaten run to 27 matches.

The result means both regional rivals enter Tuesday’s match with three points, making their meeting potentially decisive in the race for first place in Group B.

Thailand expected to keep core line-up

Thailand are expected to retain much of the side that impressed against Pakistan.

Patiwat Khammai is in contention to start in goal, with Suphanan Bureerat, Manuel Tom Bihr, Nattapong Sairiya and Nicholas Mickelson among the defensive options.

Sarach Yooyen and Peeradon Chamratsamee are expected to anchor midfield, while Chanathip Songkrasin could operate behind an attacking line featuring Supachok Sarachat and Teerasak Poeiphimai, with Jude Soonsup-Bell leading the line.

Vietnam hit by injuries

Vietnam will be without two important players.

Nguyen Quang Hai missed the tournament after failing to recover sufficiently from a left ankle injury.

Nguyen Xuan Son has also been ruled out after suffering a hamstring tear during the 1-0 win over the Philippines. An MRI scan confirmed the injury and he is expected to be sidelined for at least four to six weeks.

Patrik Lê Giang is expected to start in goal, while Pham Xuan Manh, Nguyen Adou Leygley Minh and Bui Hoang Viet Anh are among the defensive options.

Nguyen Hoang Duc and Le Pham Thanh Long are expected to feature in midfield, with Do Hoang Hen, Nguyen Dinh Bac and Williams Minh Hoang among Vietnam’s attacking choices.
