Queen Mary University of London, a leading global research university and member of the UK’s Russell Group, together with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), has launched three Bachelor of Engineering (International Programme) Dual Degree Programmes in Thailand. The programmes combine UK educational standards with Thailand’s engineering and technology expertise to develop a highly skilled workforce, ready for technological change and the needs of future industries. The two universities are also establishing the International Centre for Future Technologies, which features a “Flying Faculty” model: academics from the UK travel to Bangkok to teach alongside leading KMUTT academics at the Bangkok campus. The first cohort of students will be admitted in the 2027 academic year.
Associate Professor Dr Suvit Saetia, President of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, said of the partnership “The partnership between King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Queen Mary University of London represents an important step in expanding access to high-quality transnational education in Thailand. By bringing together KMUTT’s strengths in engineering, technology, applied research and close engagement with industry with Queen Mary’s international academic expertise as a leading UK Russell Group university, we are creating an environment in which students can receive a truly international learning experience here in Bangkok, while developing the knowledge, skills and global perspective needed to thrive in rapidly evolving fields such as artificial intelligence, data and advanced engineering. Our ambition extends beyond the launch of these first three programmes. Through the International Centre for Future Technologies, KMUTT and Queen Mary are building a long-term platform for education, research, innovation and collaboration between Thailand and the United Kingdom. We see this partnership as an opportunity not only to prepare a new generation of globally capable graduates, but also to connect academics, researchers and industry, accelerate the development of future technologies, and contribute to Thailand’s innovation capacity and competitiveness in the years ahead.”
Professor Dr Colin Bailey, CBE, FREng, President and Principal, Queen Mary University of London, said “This is an exciting moment for our universities, and the beginning of lasting opportunities for generations of students in Thailand. At Queen Mary, we believe that excellent education should develop talent, expand opportunity and empower students to make a positive difference in the world. By combining our research excellence and more than two decades of experience in international education with KMUTT's outstanding engineering expertise, we are creating something that neither institution could achieve alone. This partnership is about more than delivering degrees. It is about building trust, sharing knowledge and developing the next generation of engineers, innovators and leaders who will help shape Thailand's technological future. I look forward to seeing it grow and flourish in the years ahead.”
All three programmes are preparing to welcome their first cohort in the 2027 academic year, open to both Thai and international students who have completed upper secondary education or its equivalent. This gives those interested in engineering and technology the opportunity to access international programmes, learn from Thai and UK academics, and develop skills that keep pace with technological change and the future world of work. The tuition fee is THB 450,000 per academic year, or THB 1,800,000 in total for the full four years.
