In Bangkok, the celebrations on Thursday will be held at Sanam Luang starting at 7 am with a merit-making ceremony to offer alms to 489 monks. Participants should wear a yellow shirt. This will be followed at 8.30 am by paying homage to the late King with flower and wreaths.
Art and photo exhibitions about the late King will also take place and several booths will set up to provide a range of volunteer services such as the free repair of electric products and the distribution of plants.
Government-organised volunteer activities include clearing canals, collecting garbage and serving lunch to the less fortunate.
On this auspicious occasion, the government is also inviting all Thais to wear yellow shirts throughout the month.
