Ratchanok knocked out in quarters
Thai badminton ace Ratchanok Intanon was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the women’s singles at the China Open badminton in Changzhou on Friday.
However, the Thai mixed doubles pair of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai stormed into the semi-finals. The fourth-seeded Thai duo beat the Malaysian pair of Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie 21-17 21-16 on Friday.
The sixth-seeded Ratchanok won the first game 21-13 against Japan’s Sayaka Takahishi but lost the next two 14-21, 20-22.
Two other Thai women were also shown the exit on Friday. Giant-killer Pornpawee Chochuwong, who stunned world champion PV Sindhu on Thursday, lost to third seed Chen Yufei of China 20-22 13-21 while Busanan Ongbamrungphan went down to second seed Tai Tsu Ying of Taiwan 17-21 10-21.
