EA Highlights Bangkok E-Bus Programme as a Model for Clean Public Transport

Bangkok – Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (EA) has reaffirmed its leadership in Thailand’s clean energy sector following the transfer of 57,327 ITMOs (Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes) generated by the Bangkok E-Bus Programme’s 2025 operations to Switzerland’s KliK Foundation. This brings the programme’s cumulative transfers to 108,960 ITMOs.

This achievement highlights the distinctive strength of the Bangkok E-Bus Programme. The programme goes beyond replacing diesel and natural gas-powered buses with electric buses by enabling greenhouse gas emission reductions from actual bus operations to be measured, verified, certified, and transformed into economic value through international carbon market mechanisms.

ITMOs represent verified greenhouse gas emission reductions that have been authorised for international transfer under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. The ITMOs generated by the Bangkok E-Bus Programme will support Switzerland in achieving its climate targets under its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

Major cities around the world, including London, Tokyo, and Seoul, are accelerating the transition of their public transport systems towards clean-energy buses. What sets the Bangkok E-Bus Programme apart is that it takes this transition a step further—from simply “changing vehicles” to building an integrated “system” that connects electric bus deployment with carbon management. This allows verified emission reductions generated from actual operations to create tangible value at the international level.

The Bangkok E-Bus Programme has deployed more than 2,000 electric buses across Bangkok and its surrounding metropolitan areas, helping to reduce fossil fuel consumption, tailpipe emissions, and noise pollution. At the same time, the programme demonstrates the potential of EA’s Green Energy Ecosystem, which integrates clean energy, batteries, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and carbon management.

The programme is also regarded as an important model for linking clean public transport with international carbon market mechanisms. Thailand and Switzerland previously made history through the transfer of ITMOs generated by the Bangkok E-Bus Programme under Article 6.2, marking a significant milestone in global cooperation on greenhouse gas emission reductions.
