Life beneath the tracks

The Roman-Germanic Museum (RGM) in Cologne is showing a collection of new artefacts found during the construction of an underground railway line in the German city between 2004 and 2011.

The construction work involved one of the largest archaeological projects ever undertaken in a major European city, when around 2.5 million objects from various epochs were uncovered. The finds included early Roman military implements, ancient temple walls, medieval fortifications and ruined cellars dating back to World War II. The exhibition runs until May 5. – DPA
