Market in the mist
Pai, a small district in Thailand’s North, welcomes winter’s travellers with a new pedestrian-oriented art market. Located in Ban Saengthong Wiangtai, Kad Bodhi is spread around and beneath a huge Bodhi tree. Every Saturday, from early evening to late at night, this gathering place brings together local and international artists offering their works for sale to the sound of folk music. Tucked away in the misty valley, Pai is famous among young backpackers and arty types.
Bridging the culture
Thai Smile Airways brings Uttar Pradesh’s capital a little closer with the launch of direct flights between Bangkok and Lucknow. The flight, which is served by the Airbus A320 with Premium Economy and Economy Class, departs Suvarnabhumi Airport at 10pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and arrives at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at 12.20am. Lucknow is one of the airline’s four new Indian destinations, the others being Gaya, Varanasi and Jaipur. Sprinkled with British Raj–era architecture and two superb mausoleums, Lucknow has a reputation as a city of culture, gracious living and rich cuisine. Visit www.ThaiSmileAir.com.
Silence in the skies
Thai AirAsia is the first airline in the Kingdom to fly the A320neo. The new aircraft is equipped with a sophisticated engine that cuts energy consumption by 15 per cent and carbon dioxide emission by 5,000 tons a year. There is also a lower level of noise in its cabin, allowing for a near-silent flight experience. The latest A320neo aircraft joins a fleet of 49 Airbus A320-200 aircraft.
