Chinese suspect held over crystal meth sales to tourists in Bangkok
Thai police arrested a Chinese man in Huai Khwang over alleged crystal meth sales to Chinese tourists, visa overstay and an outstanding warrant in China.
Crime Suppression Division police arrested a 43-year-old Chinese man at a condominium in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district on Friday over the alleged sale of crystal methamphetamine to Chinese tourists.
The suspect, identified as Mr Fu, was charged with unlawfully possessing and distributing a Category 1 narcotic, methamphetamine or “ice”, for commercial purposes. He was also charged with remaining in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired.
Police seized 15 bags containing more than 80 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, along with weighing scales, a mobile phone and other evidence, comprising 20 items in total.
Tip-off from Chinese tourists leads to investigation
The arrest followed information provided by Chinese tourists in Bangkok that some individuals were allegedly obtaining and selling illegal drugs to other Chinese visitors.
Police launched an investigation and gathered evidence, identifying Fu as a suspected dealer supplying crystal methamphetamine to Chinese tourists in Bangkok.
Checks also found that his permission to remain in Thailand had expired.
Investigators subsequently obtained approval from the Criminal Court to search his condominium room, where they arrested him and seized the evidence.
Suspect admits selling drugs to Chinese visitors
During questioning, Fu admitted that he had entered Thailand to work as a co-ordinator for Chinese tourist groups and had been doing so for about a year, according to police.
He allegedly told investigators that he had used his contact with Chinese tourists as an opportunity to sell crystal methamphetamine to those seeking to buy the drug.
Fu also allegedly said that he had purchased the seized drugs from a Thai dealer for 200,000 baht about two weeks before his arrest.
Chinese arrest warrant linked to drug-trafficking case
Further checks found that Fu was also wanted under an arrest warrant issued by authorities in the People’s Republic of China in connection with an alleged drug-trafficking offence.
The warrant was reportedly linked to allegations that he had supplied crystal methamphetamine to Chinese tourists visiting Thailand in August 2025.
Officers transferred Fu and the seized evidence to investigators for legal proceedings in Thailand. The authorities will also take further action concerning the outstanding Chinese arrest warrant.
