Public health offices nationwide have been ordered to recall the “Jiu Jeng Pushen Jiao Nang” herbal medicine after tests showed it contains Tadalafil – a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.

The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted tests on a lot manufactured by Jong-Thai Jianming Eiw Ea Group Ltd on August 19, 2021, with a 2023 expiry date. The test was conducted on October 21.

The Jiu Jeng Pushen Jiao Nang capsules are marketed as a herbal medicine with many benefits, including balancing hormones and circulation for both men and women.

Even though the manufacturers claim the drug is 100% herbal, the department found it contained Tadalafil – a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Sold under the brand name Cialis, among others, Tadalafil has common side effects like headache, muscular pain, flushed skin, and nausea. Caution is advised for those with cardiovascular disease. The drug is also known to occasionally cause prolonged erection leading to damage to the penis, vision problems and hearing loss.

The FDA has ordered that all Jiu Jeng Pushen Jiao Nang capsules be recalled because they can pose a danger to consumers, and has alerted public health offices to track down those who have bought this medicine.

The FDA will also take legal action against the manufacturer for providing false information and not providing warnings of serious side effects.
