Runoffs see 2 carriages of Chiang Mai-bound train turn over in Phrae

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2023

Express train No 13 heading from Bangkok’s Krung Thep Apiwat Station to Chiang Mai derailed in Phrae province early on Saturday, disrupting the schedule of three other northbound trains, sources say.

The train had reportedly derailed due to damage caused to tracks by water runoffs between Phrae’s Kaeng Luang and Ban Pin stations. The accident caused two passenger carriages of the QSY electric diesel train No 5246 to turn over and detach from the bogies.

Officials were reportedly working on salvaging the carriages and there were no reports of injuries or casualties as of press time.

The rest of the carriages that were still on track have been pulled to Den Chai station in Phrae, where passengers will be transported to Chiang Mai by road.

The accident prompted the State Railway of Thailand to cancel trains No 102 (Lamphun -Krung Thep Aphiwat), No 8 (Chiang Mai - Krung Thep Aphiwat) and No 51 (Uttaradit - Chiang Mai) scheduled to run on Saturday.
