Power bills to go up from Jan as energy agency agrees on fuel tariff hike

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2023

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Wednesday approved an increase in fuel tariff (FT) for making electricity, which would result in raising the price of power at the rate of 4.68 baht per unit from January.

The ERC announced it had approved the FT rate for January to April next year of 89.55 satang (one baht equals 100 satang).

The increase in the FT would increase the current electricity rate by 69.07 satang per unit.

Currently, the power bill is collected at 3.78 baht per unit so the new rate for January to April would be 4.68 baht per unit (excluding value-added tax).

The ERC said the new FT rate had been approved after the commission took into account the impact on the people. It explained that if the FT were not raised to reflect rising cost, it could affect energy security and the services of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
