The 2024 budget allocation ranked by ministry

ollowing the approval of a 3.48 trillion baht budget by the cabinet on Tuesday for fiscal 2024, The Nation looks at which ministry will receive the biggest slices of the pie, as well as how the allocations compare to the previous fiscal year.

The Interior Ministry has been awarded the biggest budget for 2024 at 353.1 billion baht, an increase of 27.8 billion baht or 8.57% over fiscal 2023.

In second place is the Education Ministry, which receives 328.3 billion baht, 1.01 billion more than last year and representing an increase of 0.31%.

The Finance Ministry is in third place with 327.1 billion baht allocated, an increase of 42 billion baht year on year or 14.73%.

The Defence Ministry, in fourth place, receives 198.3 billion baht, an increase of 3.821 billion baht or 1.96%.

The Transport Ministry, in fifth place, receives 183.6 billion baht, increasing by 3.32 billion baht year on year or 1.84%.


Ministries in 6th to 20th place by budget allocation are as follows:

6. Public Health Ministry, 165.7 billion baht (13.4 billion baht increase, 8.84%)

7. Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, 127 billion baht (2.99 billion baht increase, 2.74%)

8. Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, 118 billion baht, (decrease of 9.53 billion baht or 7.44%)

9. Labour Ministry, 61.6 billion baht (7.33 billion baht increase, 13.5%)

10. Office of the Prime Minister, 34.5 billion baht (2.36 billion baht increase, 7.35%)

11. Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, 33.2 billion baht (2.77 billion baht increase, 9.12%)

12. Justice Ministry, 25.9 billion baht (1.38 billion baht increase, 5.63%)

13. Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, 25.3 billion baht (711 million baht increase, 2.89%)

14. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 9 billion baht (1.45 billion baht increase, 19.23%)

15. Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, 8.82 billion baht (2.04 billion baht increase, 30.08%)

16. Ministry of Culture, 7.01 billion baht (281.6 million baht increase, 4.18%)

17. Ministry of Commerce, 6.82 billion baht (378.7 million baht increase, 50.88%)

18. Ministry of Tourism and Sports, 5.59 billion baht (295.8 million baht increase, 5.59%)

19. Ministry of Industry, 4.55 billion baht (87.8 million baht increase, 1.96%)

20. Ministry of Energy, 2.83 billion baht (134.6 million baht increase, 4.99%)

The fiscal 2024 budget represents an increase of 9.3% over the 3.185 trillion baht of the previous fiscal year. The budget is expected to be submitted to Parliament for approval in December.
