Mae Hong Son province is ready to officially kick off the tourist season on Saturday (November 11), opening the Bua Tong field flower field on the Doi Mae U Kho mountain in Khun Yuam district.

Panudej Chaiyasakul, president of the Mae Hong Son Tourism Business Association, said about 10 per cent of the Mexican sunflowers in the vast field had already blossomed, leaving the field on the mountain draped in bright yellow.

He said some tourists had started visiting the field but the provincial administration would join hands with the private sector and hold a ceremony to start the annual Bua Tong field festival on Saturday for tourists to view the spectacular yellow field. About 100,000 tourists visit the field each year and local people take the chance to sell OTOP (One Tambon One Product) goods and sourvenirs.

The Mexican sunflower field typically blooms in November and December, covering over 1.6 million square metres of land with vibrant yellow flowers. The breathtaking sight of the vast sunflower field has made it a popular tourist destination. Breathtaking Bua Tong sunflower field set to reopen to tourists next week
