United Wa State Party calls for all parties to negotiate a ceasefire

The United Wa State Party/ United Wa State Army (UWSP/UWSA) urged on November 1 to the various forces involved in the conflict to discuss a ceasefire as soon as possible, saying that it will not side with anyone in the ongoing fighting in the northeastern region of Shan State.

Regarding the ongoing fighting in the northeastern region of Shan State, the UWSP/UWSA said that it will retaliate against any airstrikes and military activity into the areas under their control, according to the statement.

The UWSP/UWSA has adopted the principle of neutrality regarding the ongoing fighting in the northeastern region of Shan State and stated in the statement that it will not stand in any side and that the various forces involved in the current armed conflict should discuss a ceasefire as soon as possible, it said.

The UWSP/UWSA will unconditionally protect the security of the area and people's lives in the "Wa" region and provide free humanitarian assistance to the people who enter the "Wa" region to escape the war, according to the statement.

The three northern alliances, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Arakan Army (AA) launched “Operation 1027” in northern Shan State on October 27. Fighting between the Tatmadaw and the three northern alliances in Lashio, Hsenwi, Kutkai, Muse, Kyu Kok, Monekoe, Phaung Sai, Kunlong, Chinshwehaw and Laukkai areas is reported to be ongoing.

The Ta’ang Women's Organization announced on October 30 that more than 6,000 people have been displaced by the fighting in northern Shan State and need emergency assistance.
