Prasarn seeks advice from BOT committees

Bank of Thailand Governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul is seeking consultation with relevant committees on the Finance Ministry's four proposals.

Finance Minister Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala asked the governor to present him studies on four major issues; the establishment of the sovereign wealth fund, inflation target, massive issuance of bills of exchange among commercial banks, and solutions to the Financial Institutions Development Fund (FIDF). The study results will be submitted to the Finance Ministry within a month.

The governor said today that the sovereign wealth fund issue would be brought forward to the BOT Board. He would also seek consultation with the Monetary Policy Committee over the inflation target (as the Finance Ministry prefers to lower the target to boost the economy). Meanwhile, the bills of exchange issue would be discussed at the meeting with the Financial Institutions Policy Committee.
