Producers asked to drop prices

The Commerce Ministry will meet with 200 producers of essential consumer goods in 10 categories on Monday in a bid to persuade them to reduce prices in the wake of lower fuel costs.

Vatchari Vimooktayon, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said the meeting was called to find ways to reduce living costs. Many producers have agreed to freeze retail prices until the end of this year.

In addition, the ministry announced that the retail price of pork had declined by Bt12 per kilogram to Bt140, thanks to an increase in the supply of pigs to the market.
