Dusit dies at 64

Dusit Nontanakorn, 64, chairman of Thai Chamber of Commerce, passed away yesterday evening after 10 days of hospitalisation for leukemia.

Dusit, an advisor to Siam Cement Group, won huge praise for his initiative against corruption, while leading the business organisation. Through the initiative, carried out jointly with the Thai Institute of Directors, some leading business enterprises have vowed to avoid all types of corruption. He took it as his priority, after being appointed TCC chief in March, 2009.

Dusit was famous for his vehement criticisms against politicians. He lamented that they were holding back the country. He was one of few business leaders who dared saying in pubilc that Thais should stop "wai-ing" corrupted people, regardless of their age or financial wealth.

He was diagnosed with leukemia last year but he continued his work. He was heard saying "it's better than being idle."

His departure is considered another huge loss to the Thai business sector, following the sudden death of Charnchai Charuvastr of IOD months earlier. Together, they laid down the framework against corruption.

The religious ceremony will take place at Thatthong Temple, Ekamai.
