The SEC board of directors on Sept 1 submitted two nominations - Chalee Chantanayingyong, now deputy secretary-general of the securities watchdog; and Vorapol Sokatiyanurak, director of the Centre for Economic Competitiveness Enhancement, National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA).
Rumours go that Chalee submitted his application at the last minute, as Rapee Sucharitakul - a former SEC official - changed his mind. Rapee earlier resigned as executive chairman of Kasikorn Asset Management Co Ltd, expected to apply for the post. Rapee was said to have close relationship with the Democrat Party.
