Pajchima Tanasanti, director-general, said yesterday that his department has developed a system for collecting information on Thai intellectual property and preventing infringement after regional integration. The database will ensure that Thai IPRs are registered online for easy retrieval so other countries would not easily pirate Thai products.
Thai innovators could use the information on trademarks, patents, copyrights, local wisdom and product design to preserve their rights if any violations occurred.
With the Asean IP website, local innovators could strengthen their cooperation with other Asean countries to develop products in the future.
The Asean IP website will not only prevent violations among Asean countries, but also promote collaboration in the future.
The department has also developed a trademark registration system by shortening registration time to six months by 2015.
Deputy Commerce Minister Siriwat Kajornprasart said the ministry would soon ask for Cabinet approval to set up a committee on national intellectual property.
The ministry will also employ a legal company in the United States to seek opportunities to convince the US Trade Representative to upgrade Thailand's trade status from the Priority Watch List next year, he added.
The department has joined with the National Science and Technology Development Agency to show innovators how to commercialise their creations.
