Companies rally to aid flood victims

A number of Thai companies reacted positively to calls for help from the inundated countryside, as the number of flood victims escalated over the past weeks.

Siam Commercial Bank took a lead in relaxing loan conditions for its clients suffering from the floods by promising a debt moratorium of up to six months and an interest-rate cut. Other banks are later announcing similar schemes.

During the live government-led event to raise funds two weeks ago, PTT Group donated Bt20 million; Bangkok Bank, Bt5 million; and Thai Airways International, Bt1 million. Altogether, over Bt300 million was raised.

PTT also sent a caravan into flooded areas to help victims. It carried household essentials worth Bt7 million.

Bank of Ayudhya provided 855-survival kits and floating toilets to help alleviate the suffering of people caught in severe flooding in Ayutthaya's Bang Ban and Sena districts.

In cooperation with the CIMB Foundation, CIMB Thai Bank's executives and staff also launched a caravan to Ayutthaya, Chai Nat and Angthong, to distribute relief items and drinking water to flood victims.

Kratingdaeng also distributed 3,000 sets of relief items and handed out Bt500 to each household in flooded areas, costing the company Bt6 million.
