Finance seeks banks' help for flood victims

The Finance Ministry is mobilising supports from commercial banks to help flood victims, said a source from the ministry.

At the meeting today with the representatives of Thai Bankers Association, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and Government Savings Bank, Finance Minister Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala urged commercial banks to survey clients' losses, to see whether they need debt restructuring or debt moratorium.
The ministerial source added that the minister also asked banks to use their networks in distributing necessity items to flood victims and considering hiring vocational students to fix damaged residences and vehicles.  He also called for financial contribution from the Thai Bankers Association, to help finance the evacuation of villagers in Lop Buri.
