NBTC needs time on plan

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission might take its time to complete its broadcasting master plan, a member said yesterday.

Natee Sukonrat, vice chairman of the NBTC and head of its broadcasting committee, said the watchdog was likely to finish the spectrum-management and telecom master plans first.
The NBTC is basing these three plans on drafts prepared for it by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), which it replaced this month.
Natee said several details in the NTC’s draft broadcasting master plan needed to be revised.
The NBTC’s broadcasting and telecom committees convened yesterday to prepare to draw up these three plans. They will submit the conclusions of their meetings to the overall NBTC meeting tomorrow.
The regulator is expected to auction spectrum licences, especially for third-generation wireless broadband on 2.1 gigahertz, some time next year.
