Jetro/JCC pressure for Govt assistance

The Japanese community urged the Thai government to save industrial zones, following the severe floods at some industrial estates which prompted serious supply chain disruption at automotive and electronics plants in Ayutthaya.

In a statement issued by Setsuo Iuchi, president of Jetro Bangkok, together with members of Japanese Chamber of Commerce and addressed to Witoon Simachokedee, industry permanent secretary, the community proposed four measures to handle the flood disaster.
First, the government should speedily drain waters from industrial estates which are already flooded.
"Request for timely and concrete actions in order to drain waters from flooded industrial estates while ensuring the safety of the local people in the surrounding areas, as well as the temporary relocation support from the government and military agencies to protect important facilities such as data servers which will be very crucial for the factories to resume operation," it said in the statement.
Second, the government should set up a central body to disseminate timely and accurate information on flood situation in English.
Third, it asks for financial support for Japanese SMEs affected by the floods.
Fourth, it requests flexibility of various rule and regulation enforcement in response to the changed situations.
In the statement, it said that Witoon promised to convey the requests to Industry Minister for presenting to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and assured that the Thai government would be making the best effort to control the situation.
