FTI presents 8 proposals

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has come up with eight proposals to help manufacturers affected by the floods, including the postponement of the wage hike.

 "It remains impossible to assess the damage of the industrial sector. Right now, we want the government to mobilise supports to protect industrial estates at risk and revitalise the inundated factories," said FTI Chairman Payungsak Chartsutipol.
 To help ease the sector's difficulties, the FTI submitted eight proposals as follow;
 1. Safeguard industrial zones in the East of Bangkok, which house automotive and auto-parts manufacturing plants that entail billions of investment and over 100,000 workers.
 2. Assist affected workers
 3. Set up a Bt50 billion support fund to revive affected factories
 4. Relieve factories from electricity fee for 3-6 months
 5. Temporarily exempt factories from sending contribution to the Social Security Fund
 6. Ease rules on machinery and raw materials relocation
 7. Provide loans with 0-1 per cent interest rate
 8. Delay the minimum wage hike.
