Phuket drafts water master plan

Phuket is allocating Bt5 million to complete a water management master plan, designed to cope with drought, floods and deteriorating water quality.

Spam Consultant Co Ltd is appointed the project consultant, following the meeting of all government units, local administrative bodies and the general public in the province.
Pakorn Ditthakit, water expert of Spam Consultant, said that the main issue will deal with watersheds management, following forest encroachment. This leads to insufficient raw water and the situation worsens as the tourism industry expands. Waste water treatment must also be monitored, due to the expansion in the tourism industry as well as population growth.
