Four industrial estates brace for run-off in 4 days

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) today instructed four industrial estates in the East of Bangkok to strengthen their flood walls and prepared evacuation plans before the arrival of water in the next four days.

Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said that factories in the four industrial estates - Bangchan, Latkrabang, Bangphli and Bangpoo - are being advised to move their machinery and raw materials (including chemicals) out of the premises and put up their own walls.
The dykes are being heightened and strengthened by the Viva Board and concrete pipes with 1-metre diametre, to reduce the speed of water if the dykes collapse.
"From conversation with the Flood Relief Operations Centre, the run-off would take four more days to reach here. There should be enough time for the (better) protection," he said.

In the past week, industrial estates are falling victims of the massive run-off, one by one. The latest victim was Bangkradee Industrial Estate in Pathum Thani which houses 44 factories.

While those in inundated industrial estates have suspended production since Oct 4, many in the estates in the East of Bangkok temporarily close their plants today including Union Pioneer Co Ltd of which factory is in Bangchan Industrial Estate in Min Buri. The company plans to resume operations on Oct 25.

Kulthorn Kirby Plc shut down the plants in Latkrabang Industrial Estate on Oct 20 and will resume operations when the situation improves. As the industrial estate is bracing for the deluge, it said it would do its best to protect the premises.
President Bakery Plc will cease partial production at the industrial estate during Oct 21-22, while its operations in Bangchan will proceed as usual.
As Goodyear (Thailand) Plc today evacuated workers from its plant in Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani, Kang Yong Electric Plc with plant in Samut Prakan announced Oct 27-28 and Oct 31 as special holidays for the safety of all.

Single Point Part (Thailand) Plc, with plant in flooded Rojana Industrial Estate, opens a temporary office on Pattanakarn Road which could be reached at 02-719-8319, 02-719-8320 and email: [email protected].
