"We need measures to rehabilitate the inundated factories so that they could resume production as soon as the water subsides," said he said after a Sunday meeting with several economic ministers, Board of Investment Secretary-General Atchaka Sribunruang, and Federation of Thai Industries Chairman Payungsak Chartsuthipol.
He said that economic ministers will come up with measures to help the manufacturing sector. Kittiratt will tomorrow convene a meeting at the Stock Exchange of Thailand with Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul and representatives from industrial estates, to reveal more details on the measures to help inundated factories and industrial estates.
"The most important thing now is to restore confidence of industries in inundated industrial estates, so that existing investment will stay and new will flow in," Atchaka of BoI added.
To date, seven industrial estates in Pathum Thani and Ayutthaya have been flooded, causing nearly 1,000 factories to suspend operations. Without components from these suppliers, companies in unaffected areas also need to suspend production.
