Dtac prepared for floods

Total Access Communication (Dtac) has taken precautionary measures to protect its switching centres and base stations, as floods are ravaging many areas of Bangkok.

In a statement, the company said that it has built concrete walls and sand bag barriers around the switching stations. High-capacity water pumps have also been installed to keep the switching centers dry even when surrounding areas become flooded.
"We are working closely with the electricity generating authority of Thailand in the affected areas in the event of power outage to continue to provide electricity current to our switching centre," it said.
In the event of an emergency, 4,000 – 10,000 litres of fuel per site have been reserved in case of power outage so the stations can continue to operate during flooding.
A team of engineers has been dispatched to monitor the stations 24 hours a day in Bangkok and the vicinity, working with relevant parties to ensure the switching centers are operating as normal and can continue to provide mobile services.
Dtac has prepared mobile units which can provide services in case of an emergency. The mobile units are equipped with power generators and will be able to provide services to our customers in the event of an emergency.
Meanwhile, it has continued to offer relief efforts to customers, employees and the general public who have been affected by the widespread flooding in Thailand. It has provided free mobile phone top-ups worth Bt30 for over 840,000 prepaid customers in 7 flood affected provinces, worth a total of more than Bt25 million.
Moreover, dtac has joined hands with TOT and other mobile service operators to set up emergency hotline 1111 to receive distress calls and enquiries from flood victims and the general public, in support of the government’s Flood Relief Operations Centre (FROC) to offer assistance to flood victims, especially children and the elderly. More than 200,000 people call the hotline daily. dtac has also teamed up with the Ruam Duay Chuay Kan Foundation to offer dtac’s existing call center 1678 for flood relief efforts.
For employees and their families, they can call help line for emergency assistance. For those unable to leave flooded home, Dtac will try to deliver them food supplies. Others can take shelters at Chamchuri Square, Rangsit Khlong 5 and Srinakarin evacuation centres. Employees can take special leave of absence or work from home during the flood crisis.
