NBTC commissioner and spokesman Suthiphon Taveechaiyagarn said yesterday that the watchdog will coordinate closely with telecom operators on the matter and ask them to regularly submit situation reports.
The commission recently discussed with telecom operators their preparations for protecting their network systems from the flooding.
Since the floods began to threaten the capital, private cellular operators have stepped up protection of their systems in Bangkok, from setting up flood barriers at their main switching centres to preparing back-up power systems.
In a separate matter, the NBTC board yesterday assigned commissioners Settapong Malisuwan and Thawatchai Jittrapanun to improve the draft of the spectrum-management master plan. The revised draft is expected to be submitted for the board’s consideration in the next two weeks. If the board approves the draft, it will be put to a public hearing.
The master plan is key to the auctioning of new telecom and broadcasting spectra by the commission.
The board yesterday also approved the lists of nominees for consumer-protection subcommittees of the NBTC’s two committees, overseeing telecommunications and broadcasting. In the next step, NBTC officials will re-examine the qualifications of the subcommittee nominees.
The board will also set up another subcommittee to examine what regulations NBTC has to issue in line with the Frequency Allocation Law.
