Bangpa-in kicks off rehabilitation process

Bangpa-in Industrial Estate, the manufacturing site of 90 plants including US-based Western Digital, has started the rehabilitation process as water drainage is completed.

Some factories are expected to resume the production in December this year. Manufacturing resumption is giving a psychological boost, on fears that delayed manufacturing may dampen investor confidence and affect foreign direct investment. MCS Steel Plc, with a plant in Ayutthaya, also notified the Stock Exchange of Thailand that the company from today would resume the normal operations.

Banpa-in Industrial Estate is the second of seven inundated industrial estates in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani that have been dried, following Factory Land.
Lukkana Meankumnerd, director of the Bangpa-in Industrial Etate, said the water was completely drained out on Nov 17.
To assure investors of safety, Bangpa-in Land Development Co Ltd, the operator of Bangpa-in Industrial Estate, today also unveils the plan to invest in the flood-protection system which could cost the company as high as Bt700 million.  It will borrow the government's soft loan to finance the construction.
Bangpa-in Land Development is owned by the Trivisvavet family, which in turn is a major shareholder of Ch Karnchang Plc, the country's second biggest construction firm. During the water drainage process, Ch Karnchang has fixed the damaged infrastructure.
