Japan maintains confidence in Thailand: Kittiratt

Policy makers and businessmen in Japan showed confidence in Thailand's flood-prevention policy and vowed not to move investment out of the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.

Referring to his visit to Japan where he met Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Japanese executives, Kittiratt said that the confidence derives partly from participation of Japan International Cooperation Agency in the government-appointed strategy committee on water resources management.
JICA is now blending its plan, completed in 2004, with the plan completed by the Crown Property Bureau in 2000.
Kittiratt noted that the water management system would be designed in line with the country's development strategies. In the long term, the government plans to promote more water transportation and linkage with neighbouring countries.
"The insurance issue is much less worrisome, due to confidence in Thailand's long-term water management strategy. JICA's involvement has significantly elated the confidence," he said.
The minister said that the Japanese government promised to convince Japanese insurance firms to maintain services to Japanese companies operating in Thailand.
