Bt20.11bn budget approved

The Cabinet today approved a Bt20.11 billion budget to finance urgent post-flood rehabilitation projects.

It would come from the 2012 fiscal budget, which leaves some Bt47 billion for the government's urgent disposal, according to Governments Spokeswoman Thitima Chaisang.
The approved amount would be used to repair damaged infrastructure and relieve flood victims' burden.

While assuring the business community of the government's readiness to restore the economy, Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said on Sunday that the budeget for rehabilitation approved today could reach Bt40 billion.

Under close watch over budget spending, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra promised transparency and efficiency. The Office of National Economic and Social Development Board has been brought in to scrutinise the proposals, to avoid redundancy and inefficient use of public money.
