An Energy Ministry source said that these SPPs believe that most new manufacturing plants would come up in the eastern provinces such as Rayong or Chon Buri, instead of in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani, which were hit by the floods. Therefore, the SPPs have also adjusted their plan by turning to the eastern provinces to supply them power.
The source added that these |SPPs could change the location from what was originally planned by citing the flood impact on their business. They will have to inform the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), which awarded the power-purchase deals to them, about the location change. They will also have to find out from Egat if there is a power-transmission line available in the new locations.
SPPs that have already clinched power-purchase deals from Egat include Gulf JP. Most of the company’s plants will supply power to Egat in 2017.
The source, however, added that so far no SPP had informed Egat about any proposed move to the eastern provinces.
